Madeira - Excursions

There are a lot of exciting things to do and see at madeira. Here a couple of the options:
A toboggan ride (in a wicker basket) down the steep narrow streets of Monte is about as exhilarating as it gets. This ancient white-knuckle ride is now a top tourist attraction although it used to be the local's way of getting from top to bottom. Great fun!
Boat trips to the unspoiled neighboring island, Porto Santo.
Walking in the breathtaking countryside following the 'levedas' - small canals constructed to irrigate the land.
There are two golf courses in the island: Santo da Serra (27-hole) and Palheiro (18-hole).
Funchal offers culture, museums, art galleries and beautiful gardens. Shopping around the maze-like streets of the old town is a voyage of discovery.
