The final event of the Madeira Open 2018 was won by Peder Skaj and Peter Bertheau (Sweden) with 70.02%.  In second place were Yael Topiol (Belgium) and Hans Vergoed (Netherlands); and in third Gabriel Gislason and Gisli Steingrimsson (Iceland).  Full results HERE.

Team Forfot of Norway won the Madeira Open Bridge International Teams tournament by 1.75 VPs from last year’s winners Nuno Matos, with Team Sara Silva in 3rd place.  Final rankings:

1st Forfot ( Johansen – Forfot – Grude – Aal) 165.46

5th Just play (Gromöller  – Haeusler  – Barbosa  – Palma ) 159,34

Full results HERE.

Please come back next year and try again.

It’s all change at the top.

The Untouchables (ter Laare – Molle – de Winter – Siemi) climb 4 places to lead on 134.86.  Team Sara Silva (Bilde – Eyde – Hagen – Skjonnemann), who are presumably admirers of our newest recruit to the Welcome Desk, have risen 5 places to 2nd on 133.13.  Just 0.1 VP behind are Astro  (Olafsson – Ingthorsson – Magnusson – Eiriksson) in 3rd.

CNSV (Morgado – Silva – Machado – Macedo – Fernandes) have overtaken their fellow-islanders, moving up 51 places to take the top Madeiran spot (17th), but last year’s winners, Nuno Matos, which includes Madeirans Miguel Teixeira and Carlos Luiz (plus an Azorean – Nuno Paz – and a Brazilian – Diego Brenner), have also made a stunning recovery to climb from 60th to 10th, well in contention with 60 VPs to play for.

There are a lot of teams still in the running, so the last three matches will be crucial.  Full results HERE.

We didn’t quite break the 100 barrier, but 98 teams have begun the battle for the big prize.

Leading the field after 3 matches is Od Moze do moze (Tomaszek – Miszewska – Dmowski – Paluchowski) on 54.26.  Close behind are USKI (Juuri-Oja – Juuri-Oja – Tulonen – Utter) on 52.55 and Tea for 2 (Shieff – Malinowska – Burn – Loughridge) on 51.5.

The top Madeiran team is Toyota (Bacanhim – Gonçalves – Rodrigues – Ribeiro – Costa – Fernandes), in 12th place on 43.62.

Full results may be found HERE.

BY THE SKIN OF THEIR TEETH

Dennis Bilde and Mads Eyde of Denmark held on to their slim lead to win the Open Pairs 2018.  Congratulations, parabéns, tillykke and llogyfarchiadau to them.

In 2nd place were Juliano Barbosa and António Palma of Portugal, a mere 0.33 matchpoints behind.  3rd place goes to Michael Gromoeller and Helmut Haeusler of Germany, by the yet tinier margin of 0.2.

The top all-Madeiran pair was Alexandre Rodrigues and Bruno Macedo.

Full results HERE.

Erratum:  yesterday’s update said that the top Madeiran pair (after 2 sessions) was Ricardo Fernandes and Filipe Gonçalves.  In fact, they were second of the local pack, the top-placed pair being Alexandre Rodrigues and Bruno Macedo.  Many apologies for the oversight.
