Please note that the prize fund for 2020 had to be reduced to reflect the lower number of registered pairs who could be accommodated due to Covid-19. We hope to be able to increase the prize fund back to the usual level for 2021, Covid-19 permitting.
In 2019 we paid out €31,175 in prize money, and for 2020 were hoping to have a prize fund of €20,000, but recent developments in Covid-19 and flight cancellations have affected players’ ability to reach the tournament. We have therefore had to reduce the fund, but have succeeded in keeping it above the level which would have been expected given the reduced numbers.
The following changes have been made to the advertised prizes:
Warm-Up Pairs: prizes for 1st and 2nd places (instead of top 5)
Open Pairs: prizes to 5th place (instead of 8th)
Open Teams: prizes to 5th place (instead of 8th)
Special category prizes: Foreign, Portuguese, Madeira – 1st place only
National prizes: combined into Western and Eastern 1st place only
We are sorry to disappoint our many friends who have braved the conditions to come and play, but you will understand that the budget has been severely affected by the circumstances.
